How will your project impact Oberlin?

In light of its progressive history and values, Oberlin College must lead the way to a future where all colleges view their investments as a social mission. As the next generation of investors, Oberlin alumni and students are obliged to look critically at the impact of our own investments. We have already raised over $40,000 for the fund. With your help, we can finally reach our $50,000 goal to endow this scholarship.

In 2012, Oberlin students created the Social Choice Scholarship Fund as a model of a responsibly invested endowed fund that would aligns the College’s investment practices with values of environmental, economic, and social justice. The Scholarship will promote equitable education at Oberlin by providing a need-based scholarship for a student from Ohio, with a preference for local students from Northeast Ohio.

The Social Choice Scholarship Fund will align Oberlin College’s investment practices with three core values: environmental justice, economic justice, and social justice. These overarching values were generated by the Oberlin Alumni for a Responsible Endowment (OARE) group in collaboration with current students in the Responsible Investing Organization (RIO), based on insights gained from the 2014 Oberlin Responsible Investing Policy Symposium, which engaged community members, students, faculty, and alumni in conversation about the meaning of responsible investing for Oberlin College.

If you would like to learn more about the fund or about OARE email us at oare.oberlin@gmail.com.

Friends and supporters,

First of all, thank you so much for your support. Your donation will help a student from Ohio attend Oberlin college, while helping Oberlin to align its endowment with its values.

We have less than two weeks on the campaign, and a long way to go. Please help us by spreading the word.  You can share the crowdfunding page at http://oberlin.launcht.com/campaign/detail/3634, visit us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/SocialChoiceScholarship, and on Twitter @oberlininvest, #oberlinsocialchoice.

Today we are launching a new program: Why Obies are Supporting the social choice scholarship.  We want you to help!  Every other day, we'll be posting a short video of a obie talking about why they care and are giving their support.  If you want to submit a video, go to our facebook, or email it directly to oareoberlin@gmail.com

You can watch the first installment here:  http://youtu.be/D_3xT3Q5pe8.

Thank you again for your support, and we look forward to seeing your videos!

Best,
the Oberlin Alumni for a Responsible Endowment
