How will your project impact Oberlin?

Girls/Boyz in Motion gives Oberlin students a space to have fun movement experiences combining essential physical skills with group activities focused on personal empowerment, social dynamics, and developing leadership skills. Oberlin College students lead after school classes in yoga, dance routines, and theater games, gaining valuable mentoring experience while giving back to the community where they live 9 months of the year.

Our motto:  “Move Smart/Talk Smart/Be Smart” says it all. We believe teaching young people to use physical activity to find focus, will help them succeed not only in the gym and the dance studio, but in the classroom and the community. Now in its eleventh year, Girls/Boyz in Motion worked with over 40 children in the 2014-2015 school year.

Incredibly popular within Oberlin and the area, the program does face its challenges including changing administrations in public schools, recruiting new mentors each year, and fundraising activities. With your help, we can maintain the program, purchase needed supplies and equipment, and host a community dinner for parents and our young dancers.
