How will your project impact Oberlin?

Remember bowling your first strike at the College Lanes? What about taking Bowling I with Tom Reid? Memories like these remind us how the Lanes have always been a place for us to have fun, relax, and learn life skills that span the humanities, arts, and sciences.

In 1991, we founded the Oberlin College Alumni Bowlers Association (OCABA). Our purpose is to make sure the Oberlin community has an inclusive space at the College Lanes to enjoy bowling and encourage the continuing operation of intramural and intercollegiate bowling programs at Oberlin.

With the bowling shoes in our current inventory showing their age, we are raising money to buy new rental shoes. Investing in these new shoes will provide our community with equipment to use and enjoy for many years to come. The shoes will be available for casual bowlers, students in all bowling classes, and alumni who return for the OCABA Fun Raiser without their own bowling shoes.

Join us as we ensure the ongoing needs of our bowlers! Show your pride in our lanes by supporting OCABA's fundraiser! And help us fulfill our mission of keeping Oberlin's family spirit alive through engaging the community in activities that unite us.

Dammit. I've been telling the fundraising folks that I'm not giving Oberlin a dime until it divests from fossil fuels. Tom Reid is perhaps the only person that could get me to temporarily break this oath.

Dear Oberlin Bowling Lanes... I was a regular at the bowling lanes during my stay at Oberlin from 1989-93. In fact, I loved the style so much that I bought a pair and simply wore them as shoes, outside the bowling alley. They worked quite well with my im

Oberlin College Lanes and it's staff (notably Tom Reid and Trevor Hagedorn) gave me a love and appreciation for bowling I never thought possible. I hope what little I can give helps in any way.

Howdy Folks!

January 15, 2016

Howdy Folks,

Teamwork--the process of working collaboratively toward a shared goal--is one of the topics we study in bowling class.  As course instructor, I am proud to assign the highest grade to everyone who assisted with the recent bowling shoe crowdfunding project.  (Bowling I is a Pass/Fail course, but I would give you each an A+ if I could.)  And I am honored to be a teammate of folks who share the goal of making magical bowling opportunities available to Oberlin students and community members of the future.  We raised enough to buy 137 pairs of shoes, which will soon be wrapped around bowlers' feet as they pin their hopes and dreams to the spheres they send hurtling down the lanes, and as they learn about teamwork while sharing each other's laughter and tears.  Thank you.  Thank you.  Thank you so much!

Thanks...

-Tom

Can I still give to this project?

January 1, 2016

Once funding has ended, can I still give to this project?

Yes! Visit www.oberlin.edu/donate, select "other" as the designation, and then specify which project in the space below.

Thank you!

December 10, 2015

Howdy Folks,

Wow. Thank you. I am humbled by the outpouring of support for the bowling shoe crowdfunding project.  We quickly reached our original goal, raising sufficient funds to replace half of our shoes, and the momentum is carrying us toward our "stretch goal" of being able to replace them all. Thanks for helping to ensure that future generations of Oberlin students and community members will be able to experience the magic we've shared at College Lanes!

Thanks...

-Tom
