How will your project impact Oberlin?

The Oberlin Student Theater Association (OSTA) and Oberlin Musical Theater Association (OMTA) are passionate and talented students who have coordinated, financed, and promoted student theater activities on the Oberlin campus for years.

With the costly demand of performances, we haven’t been able to replace some of our equipment or properly care for our costumes and props. The quality of our wireless microphones, intended to be disposable, have decreased significantly over the two years they’ve been in use. We would like to replace them with eight new wireless microphones with significantly more longevity. We would also like to address the state of our costume and prop room. As many of you can attest, Wilder 400 is infamously chaotic, despite many attempts to organize it. By overhauling this space with new shelving units, storage containers, and costume racks, we will help create a more user-friendly and productive workspace for our actors and crew.

We have had great successes and exciting opportunities with musicals such as La Cage Aux Folles, Urinetown, Cabaret, and Next to Normal, and plays such as Balm in Gilead, Measure for Measure, Stop Kiss, and What We Look Like (written by student B.J. Tindal). Between the two boards we typically put on two main stage productions per semester and each winter term, as well as showcases and shows in smaller or space-specific venues.

With your gift of support we can purchase new mics and improve our storage options to allow students to continue bringing quality theater programs to the community. Any amount would be truly helpful and greatly appreciated.

If you cannot give please support OMTA and OSTA by being a patron of the arts! This season OMTA is producing The 25th Annual Putnam Country Spelling Bee, and OSTA is producing The Admission and Love and Information. What is particularly exciting is that due to a connection with the shows production team, OSTA was able to host Motti Lerner, the playwright of The Admission, on campus to work with the cast and hold a playwriting workshop and a lecture on political theater.
