How will your project impact Oberlin?

The Synapse is the only student-run publication on Oberlin’s campus that actively covers scientific topics in and beyond Oberlin and, at 52 student members, we are the single largest publication. With every issue, we bring the latest scientific developments to a diverse audience that includes current students, professors, and alumni. Our team strives to foster interest in science by exposing our community to its global relevance and contributions. Furthermore, bridging the gap between the scientific and artistic disciplines is an integral part of our mission. We offer students a medium through which to share their passions, creativity, and ideas, whether that be through writing, editing, or illustration.

We have a long history of commitment to science journalism and have recently started working with several other colleges in Ohio to exchange ideas, share research, and make The Synapse available to a broader audience. We believe this is an amazing opportunity for undergraduate students who are interested in science journalism. It will allow them to share their work with a larger audience, as well as collaborate with students throughout Ohio.

To realize this dream, we need your help! During the month of April, we are raising money to cover the additional printing costs of The Synapse’s expansion. We’re hoping to raise $5,000 to cover the cost of production for the first year at our partner schools.
We have already established fledgling branches of our magazine at Dension, Kenyon, Wooster, and Ohio Wesleyan Colleges, but we need your help to support them as they begin to grow and attract students. Help us take The Synapse to the next level; help us bring quality science journalism to the greater Ohio community.
