How will your project impact Oberlin?

The Oberlin Conservatory Council of Students is spearheading a new local initiative on October 30th titled, A Halloween Children’s Concert. Through this multi-faceted event, our goal is to unite the community and raise funds for the Oberlin Public School Music Programs.
Our event will begin with a community potluck dinner at 5:30 p.m., alongside fun games and activities for children and families. The hands-on activities will include face painting, a conducting station (an opportunity to try your hand at conducting!), and an instrument petting zoo (try out your favorite instrument!). At 6:30 p.m., we will encourage everyone to join us in Warner Concert Hall to hear a performance of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf performed and narrated by Oberlin Conservatory students.
This initiative holds significant value by fostering a link between Oberlin students, local families, and members of the community. Members from the student-run orchestra of approximately 50 performers have come together to prepare for the concert. A subset team of students from the conservatory have presented an outreach event at Prospect Elementary School leading up to the Peter and the Wolf concert. Additionally, several local businesses, churches, and restaurants (such as Lorenzo’s Pizzeria and Aladdin’s) are partnering with us in an effort to bridge the gap between the conservatory and the community. During the entirety of this initiative, we are focusing on bringing forth friendship and harmony through local food, music, and activities.
We are asking for your support! Through this gathering, our goal is to raise $2,000 for the Oberlin Public School Music Programs at Prospect Elementary and Eastwood Elementary School. We have chosen these two schools because we believe in the power of high quality education in shaping the lives of young people. The program is in need of music supplies such as recorders, percussion instruments, sheet music, and music stands to further their educational efforts. All donations will be given directly to the Oberlin Public School music programs. We also appreciate other forms of non-financial support such as sharing this page, our livestream, or Facebook event with friends and family.

Thank you!
